The elegant city of Trieste is increasingly becoming a popular tourist destination. Some of the top attractions are found on the hills dominating the city, and also around the medieval quarters below. Fortresses, Castles and Villas mosaic the landcsape of an eventful past. The word spectacular comes to mind when observing the castles of Miramare and Duino.
The Miramare Castle, situated on a cliff dominating the Gulf of Trieste is a must see. It was commissioned by Charlotte of Belgium and her Mexican husband, the Maxmilian of Habsburg. The castle is preserved perfectly till date with its original decorations.

Perched on the heights of a Karst spur overlooking the sea, lies the Duino Castle in the Duino- Aurisina region, at a very small distance from the main city of Trieste. Witnessing the glorius past, the castle is surrounded by a lush park and can be the departure point for a wonderful walk through the landscape bordering the sea, by the Rilke Path. Beside this architectural and classical beauty, the relics of the Second World War are exhibited in a bunker at 18 metres depth inside the castle premises.

On the way to return from Duino, an excellant stopover is as the Victory Lighthouse on the MIramare- Barcola Driveway. The lighthouse is an impressive masterpiesce by the Tristine architect Arduino Berlam. Apart from the navigational landmark, it is also dedicated to the fallen of the first world war.
Travelling by the Opicina tram to the hills mesmerises one's heart and soul with the wonderful picturesque beauty of the Carso Hills and The Gulf of Trieste. The distance is no more than 3 miles but the ride is an exciting voyage of discovery.

The Duomi di San Giusto , the castle and the museum lies in the heart of the city with only a 15 minutes city bus ride to the hill. The Duomo was created by connecting two chiesa(s) by a single nave nearabout 600-700 years back. Inside it is beautifully decorated with the artefacts and classical mosaics.
The Castle and the museum lies adjacent to the Duomo, providing a bird's eye view of the Gulf and the city of Trieste with the mountains as its backdrop.
The Old Stock Exchange building is one of the most important landmark of the city with its neo-classical architecture.

Other must see attractions are the Miramare aquarium and the spa, both of which contributes to the entertainment of the whole family.
