Vacations Rocca di Papa - Italy

Rocca di Papa is a town and comune in Lazio, Italy about 25 km south-east of Rome.  As one of the famous Roman Castles, Rocca di Papa enjoys an amazing location at 680m above sea level right in the heart of a national park with stunnings views to the countryside and over the whole of Rome below.

Although small in size, Rocca di Papa features numerous sights for passionate tourists.  Bring your trainers and walk around the steep and narrow cobbled streets of the 'città storica' hitoric centre and stop by the Papal Fortress, Church of the Assunta and the Convent of Palazzolo.  Climb all the way to the top and, apart from being very tired, you will also enjoy a stunning view accross the entire cityscape of Rome and the rolling countryside all the way to the sea on a clear day!  This place will give you a great feeling for the classic italian village life so often depicted in film and music!

While in and around Rocca di Papa, make sure you stop off in one of the many vinyards to try some locally produced wine from this famous wine region.  Also worth while are the many free standing trattorias dotted around the hillside if you want to try some amazing local specialities to tempt you away from your diet! 

The area is popular with cyclists, classic and sportscar drivers as well as joggers thanks to the amazing scenery, clear air and slightly cooler temperatures compared to Rome itself.  The 'Via dei Laghi' is one of the most famous and scenic roads in Italy, offering spectacular view accross the area and leading right the way up to Rocca di Papa!
