The Colosseum, or Flavian Amphitheatre, is a huge amphitheatre in Rome.

Constructed in 70 AD, the Colosseum was the largest amphitheatre built in the Roman Empire and is capable of seating about 50,000 spectators. One of the best examples of Roman architecture, it has long been a symbol of Imperial Rome.

Interestingly, the site was used to entertain public with games and showcase of fights between animals and gladiators. Also, comic acts and display of exotic animals were also held here.

Although it is now in a ruined state due to damages by earthquakes and struggles, it is one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions and receives millions of visitors annually.

This architectural marvel is still a treat to the eyes with excellent interiors. Also, the nearby Roman Catholic Church leads the ‘Way of the Cross’ procession every Good Friday.
