Reviews Sistine Chapel
Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City.
One of the most well known places in the world, the Sistine Chapel was built in the 1400s by Pope Sixtus IV. It is most famous for the Papal Conclaves which take place for the election of a new Pope.
The brilliant architecture of the place is enhanced through paintings by renowned Renaissance artists like Michelangelo, who painted the legendary vaulted ceiling of the chapel.
Visitors can take guided tours and soak in the beauty of the place while also watching the past era come alive through the numerous works of art displayed in the chapel.
The paintings on the walls of the place are the works of leading painters of the fifteenth century like Perugino, Botticelli, Rossellini and more. They refer to the medieval concept of the partition of the history into three epochs.Web Site: http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/CSN/CSN_Storia.html
