Green Rome - Rome

For the lover of the outdoors and ecology Rome may not seem like the obvious destination but despite several thousands years of human habitation Rome still contains some very special pockets of nature.

Of course for those of us of this disposition the only reasonable way of getting around is via the new shared bicycle scheme. It is fairly good for central areas of the city but the drop of points thin out dramatically as you head outwards. Roman traffic can be intimidating and cycle lanes haven’t exactly caught on here yet but if you have confidence and cycle boldly then it’s as safe as any other major city.

One of the most beautiful open spaces in the city is Villa Borghese located just north west of the centre. Just north again from here is Villa Ada which also has stunning landscape. The highlight though must be Villa Pamphili with it’s gracious arches and undulating hillocks, it’s the place to wander amongst natural surroundings whilst still being in the heart of European civilization.
