Tourist Guide Vernazza
Vernazza could be described as the pearl of the Cinque Terre. As the second and smallest town of the Cinque Terre going west to east along the Ligurian Coast, Vernazza offers visitors characterful and historic achitecture, a pretty harbour and some of finest restaurants in the area.
Situated in the middle of a protected wildlife zone, the landscape is spectacular and unspoiled and includes olive groves, vinyards and cacti, not to mention beautifully clear and unpolluted mediterranean waters. Hiking is one of the major attractions in the area, especially off season. Remember - you have to buy a pass to access the clean, well kept foot paths through the area.
To relax, head down to the harbour front and enjoy the small and secluded beach. A stop-off at the 'Santa Margherita d'Antiochia'church, which can be dated back to 1318, is also recommended. Don't miss Doria Castle which, once you have climbed to the top, offers spectacular views accross the sea. The castle also contains museums and galleries if you need a break from hiking!
Vernazza has a train station and direct connections to the towns of the Cinque Terre and La Spezia and is therefore easily accessible without a car. If you love nature and classic Italian charm, don't miss it!
