Naviglio Grande Antiques Market
On the last Sunday of every month (with the exception of July) a large antiques market sets up shop on the Naviglio Grande canal in Milan near Porta Genova and Porta Ticinese. “Il Mercatone dell’Antiquatario” stretches from Viale Gorizia to the bridge of Via Valenza, and includes about 400 prominent antique vendors from around the world.
This famous market offers a wide variety of old goods, such as radios, furniture, porcelain, silver, jewelry, dolls, games, clocks, glasses, modern antiques, canes, bronze, comics, and much more. Some of the antiques are expensive for excellent reason; it all depends on each object’s story. But do beware, as most everything is very old, and some things will be overpriced despite their poor condition. So before you drop a large chunk of your paycheck on that old armoire you found, give it a thorough inspection.
Even if you are not shopping at Naviglio Grande Antiques Market, it is still a fantastic opportunity to socialize and enjoy the extended hours of the shops, restaurants and art galleries in the area that stay open later than usual to accommodate the always large crowd. The Naviglio Grande Antiques Market opens at 9 am and lasts until 6 pm.
