The Milan and Monza Rail Road opened in 1840 and has speed lines and new lines which connect Milan to Rome, Naples and Turin. There is also the Azienda Trasporti Milanesi which operates within the metropolitan area and manages the public transportation network of 3 metropolitan lines and 120 tram along with bus lines.
