Inaugurated in 1913 and the opening ceremony was held in a former Casino Ricordi located near Teatro alla Scala. The museum is home to the world famous Sambon collection which is world’s most envied and famous collection. The collection achieved this status with the several donations and purchases. The "Casa di riposo per musicisti" by Giuseppe Verdi is the most important deposit of the museum.
