Positano is a small resort town along the famed Amalfi Coast in the south-western part of Italy. This town of almost 4,000 inhabitants sits on the sides of the mountains rising almost cliff-like from the seashore.
Positano enjoys a temperate climate. The mountains protect it from the cold winds blowing in from the north and ensure that winters are mild. The town does not get much rain either.
Positano was a flourishing trade town for most of its early history; but it started deteriorating and became a sleepy fishing village. Today, it has regained its past glory and is bustling with tourists and is one of the most fashionable holiday spots in Europe.
Since the village has been built almost vertically built, it calls for a lot of steep walks and climbs.
