This cathedral is also called as the Alghero Cathedral and was consecrated in 1730. Originally the church was built in the Catalan Gothic style of architecture which can be seen in the 5 chapels of the presbytery which also includes the base of the bell tower. However, in the 20th century the appearance of the façade was altered with the addition of a Neo-Classical narthex.
