Alghero: Attractions and more...
Neptune’s Grotto is the most visited site in this area. They are a series of caves that can be accessed by a boat from the marina or by steps from the cape. Numerous stalactites and stalagmites can be found in these caves.
Several remains of ‘nuraghe’, huge cone-shaped towers made from big blocks of stone, are scattered across this region. Nuraghe di Palmavera is the most well-preserved of them. Necropolis Anghelu Rùju, the remains of a 5000-year-old burial ground, is also found here. The Chiesa di San Francesco is the town’s most beautiful church.
Bosa, a flourishing settlement in the medieval period, is especially famous for the remains of the fortified Malaspina castle from the Middle Ages.
Alghero is famous for its coral jewellery and carvings; these are made from the corals which are extracted from the surrounding waters by divers.
