The Pisan Towers in Cagliari, Sardinia, each have their own name - St. Pancras Tower, named for the church to which it is attached, and Elephant Tower, because, well, there’s an elephant on it. At least you’ll know which is which!
They were built in the early 14th century, and were used as watchtowers. They have a pretty grisly past, too - torture, prisons, decapitations and whatnot. But now they’re one of Cagliari’s most popular attractions. Make sure you include a tour of their interiors while you’re up on Castello hill. And make sure you look out for the elephant!
