Just past Cagliari’s Botanic Gardens is nothing less than a millennia-old amphitheater. It’s a fascinating place to visit, and your €4.30 entry fee gets you into the inner workings of the site where gladiators used to fight for entertainment. (It’s € 2,80 for students and seniors, and children under 6 are free!)
It should be noted, however, that the hours are a bit weird - it’s closed on Monday, for one thing; during the rest of the week it’s open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. And Sunday the times are so random, I wouldn’t bother going at all on that day. However, you should definitely make time one morning during the week to go - it’s a much more accessible archaeological site than many throughout Italy.
