Molentargius-Saline Regional Natural Park is for the birds – literally. Protected by international wetlands agreements, the park is home to more than 180 different types of bird species, many of them rare, so birdwatchers come from all over the world armed with binoculars to check them out.
The most important for the regional culture is the enormous population of pink flamingos, translated as “The Pink People” in the local dialect. The lagoon that forms the park's borders, has two distinct areas - Bellarosa Minore, which is freshwater, and Bellarosa Maggiore, which is salt water, although the lake itself and the marshlands are saltwater. Beyond the avian awesomeness, you can also just stroll around, ride around on bikes, or have lunch there as well - just don't feed the birds!
