Lampedusa is a Mediterranean island and the largest part of the Pelagie Islands, Italy. With a small population of around 7,000 inhabitants, Lampedusa is well known for its flora and fauna and is among the most popular tourist destinations in Italy.
Interestingly, Lampedusa belongs to the African continent, geographically as well as geologically. It is blessed with a moderate climate with mild summers and pleasant winters. The rainfall is highly irregular, and the place experiences vigorous wind activity.
The island became a part of Italy in 1860 and served as a maritime base for the Greeks and the Romans. In recent times, the island has been developing its economy, which is based on fishing, agriculture and tourism.
