The city houses a large number of museums and historical monuments like the Messina Regional Museum, Cathedral, Temple of San Francesco dAssisi, Church of San Tommaso and Badiazza.

While vacationing in Messina, be sure to visit the Aquarium of Messina, which houses a large collection of corals, sea anemones and starfishes. The city is also home to seaside resorts like the Lido di Mortelle and Lido del Tirreno.

The city hosts some of the most spectacular festivals that display traditional folk culture, including Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Vara, Procession of Barette and Madonna della Lettera
