Trapani is a town on the western coast of Sicily, an island just off the southern tip of Italy. This harbour town of approximately 70,000 inhabitants lies at the tip of the province of Trapani. The region boasts of a long coastline and is spread over the surrounding hills.
Trapani enjoys a pleasant climate all year round. In the peak of summer, the temperatures average at 30°C. Winters are very mild with the aggregate temperature 16°C. Maximum rainfall is during the winter season.
More than 2000 years ago, Trapani served as an important naval base for its rulers. Today, it is one of the most rapidly developing cities in Sicily. Though fishing is the most important economic activity for its people, winemaking and coral export are also flourishing industries.
