Camaiore had been a stage with respect to ‘Roman road via Cassia’. It was named ‘Campus Maior’ then. During Middle Ages, its importance grew by leaps and bounds as it served as stop on ‘Via Francigena’. Thereafter, it served as major route between France and Rome.
