Lucca rises from the Tuscan plain like the fortifications of a medieval citadel. Romance echoes through its every stone.
The market in the middle of this small Italian walled city is a wonderful place to enjoy a steaming cup of think hot chocolate, nestled as it is beneath the beautiful and imposing San Michele in Foro Duomo (the cathedral of St. Michael in the Forum).
The best time to take in the surrounding scenery is in the morning as the birds sing. Two can take a stroll right around the city atop its magnificent walls and if its a clear day the countryside beyond can be surveyed for miles around.
