This square is an important square and landmark in Pisa where the Knights of St. Stephens had their headquarters in the 16th century. At present it is an important educational center and houses the Scuola Normale di Pisa, an institution of higher education. The other important buildings in the square include the Palazzo della Carovana, Statue of Cosimo, Palazzo del Collegio Puteano and Muda Tower.
