Known as Asinalunga till about the eighteenth century, Sinalunga is the site where the Sienese defeated the English Mercenaries in 1363. It was in this town where Garibaldi was arrested by Vittorio Emanuele II in 1867.
The tourism sector accounts for a large portion of the economy. Some of the other revenue-earning industries include brickworks, pottery, light engineering and furniture.
