This castle has thirteenth-century fortifications; along with an age-old medieval tower. Remains of ‘Etruscan tomb’ have been discovered within castle walls. Fortification took place by della Scala ‘family’. They were the ones who happened to rule this area all through the thirteenth century. In the year 1786, Goethe got arrested as he was suspected to be a ‘spy’ after getting caught sketching the castle.
