Cannaregio is the northernmost of the six historic sestieri of Venice. It is also the second largest sestiere by land and the largest by population with 20,000 people. The historic cemetery island, Isola di San Michcele, is connected with this district. At present, this area is packed with tourists and the area is rather peaceful with neighborhood shops, small cafes and morning markets.
