| Attractions |
Originally the residence of the royals of Venice, it was built in the ninth century and housed the offices of various government personnel. Built for defensive purposes, the castle displays Byzantine and gothic architecture in their best form. The palace was also seen as the perfect symbol of an ideal state.
The palace has a delicate outlook owing to the light coloured motifs and fine pinnacles with delicate carvings. The open arches, pink marble panels and magnificent western façade are delightful.
Visitors can tour the various rooms in the palace which are decorated with stunning paintings like the ‘Paradise’, which is believed to be the world’s largest painting on canvas.
It also houses the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche which has interesting artefacts. |
