Tourist Guide Klaipeda
Klaipeda is located in the north-western part of Lithuania, along the Baltic Sea. This city of approximately 187,000 inhabitants is the country’s primary port both for trade and visitors. Its importance in the Baltic lies in the fact that it is the primary ice-free port in the region.
Klaipeda enjoys a temperate climate. Summers are pleasant with the average temperature at 19.4°C; this is the best time to visit. In winter, the temperatures are pretty severe; average temperature in January tends to be just below 0°C.
Owing to its strategic location, Klaipeda has been the subject of many disputes. It has been successively fought over and conquered by Prussia, Sweden and Germany, among others. Russia played a large role in Klaipeda’s development as a trading port.
