The President’s Palace has existed on this very spot since the 14th century. For more than 250 years, this historic building has been residence of Archbishops of Vilnius before the partitions of the Poland-Lithuania turned things. The Russian Governors took over the palace and after Napoleon sent them packing, the palace was taken over by many great or even terrible people in history. After Lithuania regained its independence in 1918, this historic building housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and since 1997 it has served as the official resident of the President of Lithuania.
