National Museum of Art and History is situated at Marche aux Poissons L-2345 Luxembourg and is open daily from 10 to 5 except on Mondays. The museum is situated near the fish market which is in the center of the city and is housed in an extensive but ancient Renaissance and Gothic mansion.
The museum has more than 120 rooms which contain coins, tools, furniture, archeological finds, arms and documents which depict the history of the region and the life of the people.
There is special emphasis on the Luxembourg life and the Gallo Roman period.
The Fine Arts section has ancient paintings and sculptures while the Contemporary Art section includes the work of important artists from the 20th century.
The museum also has a library with 25, 000 volumes. There is a special exhibition called ‘Fortress of Luxembourg’, at the museum which also includes models.
