The Natural History Museum is situated at 25, rue Münster, L-2160 in Luxembourg and is open daily from 10 to 6 except on Monday. The museum lies in the Grund quarter on the eastern bank of the Alzette River near the Neumünster Abbey.
The museum has 8 separate scientific sections which cover various subjects from natural sciences such as botany, geology, ecology, geophysics and astrophysics, vertebrate and invertebrate zoology, paleontology and mineralogy.
The main aim of the museum was to promote natural sciences and natural history to the public.
The museum has expanded and the new site which opened in 1996 is spread across 3 buildings each of which is dedicated to different functions.
One of the buildings displays a collection of items; the other has teaching classrooms while the third has research laboratories.
