The St. George’s Basilica is a medieval-time church with its dome and ceilings painted by famous artisans of the time and a collection of artefacts spanning several centuries. The Santwarju tal-Madonna ta’ Pinu Sanctuary is a comparatively modern church and is known for its several stained glass windows and mosaics. The enormous Ggantija temples are believed to be the oldest religious structures in the world.

Ramla Bay, also known as the Red Sandy Beach because of the colour of the sand, is the best beach on the island and is known for the Calypso Caves a maze of tunnels and caves. In the village of Dwejra is the Inland Sea a pool of water surrounded by land and connected to the sea by a narrow arch in the surrounding cliffs; it is a popular diving spot. The Fungus Rock, a large chunk of limestone rising out from the sea, is in the vicinity and is a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling.
