Typical Catholic feasts greet travellers when they come to Malta. The Carnival, a pre-Lenten season of celebration, starts three days before Ash Wednesday (with the largest festivities taking place in Valletta). Easter Sunday is another church feast that is celebrated in great style, when statues of Jesus are carried throughout the streets and traditional lunches of roast lamb are held.

Festa season (held in the summer months of May–September) is a series of festivities, when all 64 towns in Malta celebrate their patron saints and have effigies adorned with church treasures.

The Malta Jazz Festival takes place at the end of July in Valletta and attracts jazz artists from around the world. The Mediterranean Food Festival (which usually happens in early March) boasts four days of the best Mediterranean food on offer.
