Located on Dapperstraat in East Amsterdam, the Dappermarkt is situated in a low-cost area. Celebrated as a great place to buy low-cost fruit and ethnic foods, the Dappermarkt sells most of its products for less than €1. In 2007, National Geographic Traveler put the Netherlands on the map for street markets by ranking this market as one of the Top Ten Shopping Streets in the World. Although compared to Istanbul’s Gran Bazaar and Milan’s Navigli Antique Market, the Dappermarkt is seemingly synonymous with inexpensive shopping.
There are often unique events going on at the Dappermarkt, including live music and special festivals celebrating the holidays. The Dappermarkt pulls in locals and tourists alike, and people travel from all over the world to experience what it has to offer. The market also has a strong multicultural allure, as many of its products have Surinamese, Turkish, and Moroccan appeal.
The market offers general shopping, but there is also a wide variety of cafes, stores, and restaurants surrounding it. These are great places to go for clothes, shoes, and other exotic cuisines. The Dappermarkt is open Monday through Saturday; from 9 am to 5 pm. Visitors will be glad they visited, as the market gives off a great ambiance of energy, hard word, and exoticism.
