Blow Your Mind in Amsterdam

While there are many ways to get your mind sufficiently blown in Amsterdam, some may be less obvious than others.  Because it is one of the few places in the Netherlands (and perhaps the world) with astonishingly liberal drug laws, you can easily start the mind blowing experience at the first coffeeshop you see.

First, be sure that the sign out front does in fact say “Coffeeshop.” If it says “Café,” you may be barking up the wrong tree if you’re looking for mind altering substances.  Coffeeshops in Amsterdam are permitted to serve each person up to five grams of cannabis, so long as the customer is 18 years old, and they do check rigorously.

Many of Amsterdam’s tourists, who want the authentic Dutch experience, underestimate the potency of the marijuana served in these establishments. So if you do decide to take part, do it responsibly and don’t indulge in more than you can handle. Some great coffeeshops include The Doors Coffee Shop, Coffeeshop Johnny, and The Bulldog Coffeeshop in Leidseplein.

After that, be sure to get your hands on a bottle of absinthe, and see about having an enjoyable evening in Red Light District. The folks there are oh so hospitable!

Just don't forget that Amsterdam is a beutiful and historic city as well!
