Schipol Airport is the main airport in Amsterdam. It is located appoximately 18 kilometres to the southwest of the city centre.
The city also has reliable train services.
International and domestic trains for Amsterdam arrive in Central Station, located in the city centre.
Amstel Station is the main central bus station. Amstel station is connected to Central Station by underground services.
Waterlooplein and Nieuwmarkt are the 2 underground stations in the city centre.
However, the most popular means of public transport is the tram service. The city has 15 different lines and tram number 20 is the best tram for travellers as it stops at most of the city’s attractions.
Tickets can be purchased at the tram office before boarding or at any news-stand.
Another popular way to tour Amsterdam is by bike. There are more than 500,000 bikes in the city.
Bikes can be rented for €7 per day.
