The Rijskmuseum is located on the Museumplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in the nineteenth century, the Rijksmuseum was initially established in The Hague and was later shifted to Amsterdam. Rijksmuseum has a large collection of paintings from the Golden Age of the Dutch in the seventeenth century and other artefacts from Asia. Some of the famous works are by Jacob van Ruysdael, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and Rembrandt. The Museumplein houses three other museums which serve as additional attractions.
Established with a collection of merely 200 paintings, the museum now houses almost 5,000 rare paintings. Sculptures, historical objects and the works of Asiatic Art account for a collection of another 43,000.
