The West Church, also known as Westerkerk, was officially opened in 1631 and is one of the oldest churches built for the Protestant services. Rembrandt, who was one of the most famous painters in the world was buries in this church. It was near this church and in view of its towers, that Anne Frank wrote her dairy in the hiding place from the Nazis, the Annex. This church was built in Dutch Renaissance style by the city architect, Hendrick de Keyser. The hour bell is the heaviest in Amsterdam and weighs over 7,500 kilograms, with its hammer weighing 200 kilograms. The exterior, the tower, interior and many such architectural works are worth looking at.
