So you’ve experienced all the wild novelties unique to Amsterdam. Now you’re ready to just have a quiet evening with a good meal. There is no place in the Netherlands better for scenic dining than Amsterdam’s canals. Having drinks, dinner, and coffee aside a canal can be an excellent way to soak up the city’s atmosphere.
One option is a social group called Canal Side Dining, which hosts dinners and gatherings in a beautiful authentic Amsterdam canal house, offering a great view of the river. In the past, one of the more notable entrées has been broiled Zeewolf with sautéed curly cabbage. However, this intimate experience can prove to be a little pricey, as the average cost for a full meal complete with wine can reach around €90 per person.
For a less costly night time canalside experience, visit one of Amsterdam’s many tasting rooms, bars or cafes. Located on Prinsengracht and Browersgracht, Cafe t’Smalle was originally the Pieter Hoppe distillery, and is now one of the most popular joint on the canal running through the Jordaan district. If you like, you can even arrive by boat and park right by the patio! The possibilities are almost endless, as Amsterdam’s canals have much to offer in the way of effortless entertainment.
