Safety and Warnings
Rating:

The city is known for its street crimes, especially pickpockets and drug offenses.
These crimes are mostly committed after dark and in regions close to nightclubs and restaurants.
Tourists should avoid travelling alone at night and stay away from visiting the cobbled streets in the Red Light District.
Another danger in Amsterdam is fake police who show fake IDs and mostly target Asian travellers. They ask for credit cards, passports and sometimes inquire about PIN numbers as well.
Whether in a restaurant or a pub, one must always keep extra care of personal belongings.
Never leave any belongings unattended. One should also be extra careful about thieves working in a gang - one distracts you while the other steals cash and valuables.
Avoid taking drugs as it is officially illegal.
When walking through the streets, tourists are normally approached by dealers who try to sell different drugs.
This can be annoying so, the best thing to do is show no interest and keep walking away.
