Breda can be mentioned as a municipality as well as a city within southern portion of Netherlands.
The name ‘Breda’ has been derived from ‘brede Aa, i.e. broad Aa’. This suggests that Breda is a place where rivers Aa and Mark get together. Breda has been divided in to seven stadsdelen. They are Breda Centrum, Breda Zuid, Breda Zuid-Oost, Breda Oost, Breda West, Breda Noord-West, and Breda Noord. To this city, former villages such as Ulvenhout, Teteringen, Bavel, and Prinsenbeek are also attached.
Breda was famous for being the center of ‘food and drinking’ industry. Companies such as Van Melle, Hero, Kwatta, and De Faam were known all over western Europe. This city also contained a ‘sugar factory’; which supplied its finest-known products. Breda had housed the largest brewery all over Netherlands. It was, however, closed down in the year 2004. Decline with regards to industrial activity didn’t harm economy of Breda. Trade and business are perceived as major economic activities now.
