Eindhoven: Attractions and more...
While Eindhoven’s medieval heritage has for the most part been destroyed, there are still a number of sights worth visiting.
The first Philips light factory has been converted into a museum where visitors can experience first-hand how light bulbs were made in the 19th century. The building also houses the Artificial Light in Art Centre, a display of paintings and sculptures using artificial light as their inspiration. Over 600 works are on permanent exhibition, and in addition, temporary exhibitions are held regularly. The Van Abbemuseum houses an impressive collection of work from modern and contemporary masters such as Picasso, Chagall, and Mondrian.
Eindhoven’s nightlife is very lively, offering everything from bars,
clubs and restaurants to musical and theatrical events. The Stratumseind is
famous as the street with the Netherlands’ highest concentration of pubs,
while Wilhelminaplein is the area to go for live performances on rooftop terraces.
The De Gaper bar in Wilhelminaplein offers over 200 varieties of whisky.
