The Dutch cuisine uses potatoes extensively. Seafood is available almost everywhere and is fresh. Desserts generally are dairy products, fruits with fresh cream or ice-cream. The Dutch gebak, or pastries, are varied, tasty and inexpensive. For authentic Dutch cuisisnes, look out for restaurants with the Neerlands Dis sign on them.
The most popular drink of the Dutch is by far the jenever. It is a variety of gin and is of two types: ‘jonge’ (young) or ‘oulde’ (old).
