Ijmuiden is a typical seaside resort town which is popular with the visitors for the sun and the beach. It has several recreational facilities as well as opportunities for water sports enthusiasts. The town has an active nightlife with numerous restaurants and bars flanking the marina and other parts of the town.
Architecturally, the Municipal Hall is known for its fine structure and décor. The North Sea locks, which control the passage of water between the canal and the sea, are amongst the largest in the world.
