Nudism is very common in Norway, and widely accepted. There are about 20 officially declared nude beaches along Norway’s coastline and fjords (deep inlets of sea between high cliffs). While there are many nude beaches in Norway, many of them also offer separate, clothing-required areas.
In Oslo the most well-known is Huk Beach. It is the biggest and most public place to go for an outing by the sea, and a great place to take your family because it has both nude and clothing-required areas that are adequately segregated. It also has amenities such as a snack shop, showers, and a public restroom. Strandskog Nude Beach is just south of Oslo and is more of a private, low key swimming area. It is far more understated than Huk Beach. Another great place to go is Kalvøya, an island about 20 minutes southwest of Oslo. Again, this spot has clothing-required beaches as well as nude beaches.
Travelers are often amazed that Norway has such nice beaches during the summer because during the winter those very same spots are snow-covered, barren, and cold. The annual transformation is something that the locals look forward to, and visitors should do the same!
