The Akershus Castle and Fortress is the old castle which was built to protect Oslo. It has also been used as a prison. The castle construction started around late 1290s by King Hakon V. It is also one of the most vital Norwegian castles of the period. This beautiful fortress survived many sieges and it early 17th century; it was modernized and remodeled too. It was first used for battle in 1308.
