The Oslo Opera House is an architectural wonder that appears to rise up from the water. Home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Oslo Opera House is located in the city’s Bjørvika district at the head of Oslojford bay.
It is a good place to go because it’s Norway’s official opera theater, but the building alone is worth the trip simply for its aesthetic appeal. The roof slants all the way down to the ground, creating a slope for visitors to climb up in order to get a panoramic view of Oslo. It is made largely of Italian marble and white granite, giving it a cool appearance, especially when viewed from the water.
Having just recently opened in 2008, the opera house’s main auditorium seats 1364 visit ors, but also has two other smaller performance spaces, one capable of seating 200 people, and the other capable of holding 400. Tickets to performances are available online at http://www.operaen.no, and there are also daily guided tours of the Oslo Opera House Monday through Saturday at 12 pm, and Sunday at 12:30 pm. This is a great place to go to appreciate Oslo’s performing arts and architectural innovation!
