Located at Karl Johans gate 22 in Oslo, Norway's Parliament Building is distinguishable by its yellow brick appearance. Built by famous Swedish architect Emil Victor Langlet, this widely-recognized building has housed meetings of the Norwegian government since 1866.

The Parliament of Norway is broken up into 12 subcommittees that address economic and political matters of all sorts. While not all of the meetings are conducted on location due to its size, many of Parliament’s most important gatherings are held in the building’s Plenary Chamber.

The Parliament of Norway Building is a must-see if you're at all curious about the early political history of Oslo.  Although its beginnings can be traced back to the 9th century, Parliament (or the “Storting”) was established as late as the early 19th century. In World War II, when the Nazis invaded, the building was used as a barracks for German soldiers and later became the living quarters for the Commissioner of the Third Reich. This, of course, only lasted until the end of the war.

Today the building remains a symbol for Norwegian politics and culture. Definitely check this building out for a taste of Oslo’s historical and political landscape.
