Oslo, Norway, has a wide variety of parks and recreational areas where you are free to engage in sporting activities. The more popular recreational activities the city has to offer include biking, boating, skiing, hiking, and swimming. Also if you're looking for a pickup game of football, you can head toward a nearby park to jump in a game, or start one of your own.

Some great parks to check out include Vigeland Park, Slottsparken, and Botanisk Hage Gardens and Museum.  The sports available in Oslo depend very much on the season, however, as a popular place to go hiking in the summer is Oslomarka, a hilly forest area.  However, this same location has also been home to the Olympic Winter Games and World Ski Championships. There are eight different areas inside Oslomarka, all of which together occupy a space larger than most major cities. After you've worked up a sweat hiking in Oslomarka, head toward Oslo Archipelago to have a relaxing swim and work on your tan (in the summer of course)!

While Norway is well-known known for its variety of sporting opportunities, few may be aware that handball is a very popular one among Norwegians. Often, one can see locals playing handball in Oslo's larger parks. If a team doesn't have a seventh player, you should ask to join in and learn the game!
