Grønland is a neighborhood located in Central Oslo that is home to many of Oslo’s stores, mosques, bars, and multicultural restaurants. It is situated on east side of Akerselva River, approximately ten minutes walking distance from Oslo Central Station and the downtown Oslo area.
Many of Oslo’s trams run through Grønland, as it occupies a relatively central location of town. Knowing this, many tourists may be surprised to find that the prices of goods and services in Grønland are lower than other places in Oslo. Over the past 30 years, Grønland has become known as sort of the cultural melting pot of the city, as it is home to many different ethnicities of people with different cultural microcosms in Oslo. Many shops in Grønland also sell goods from all over the world.
Grønland is somewhat known for its crime problem, but the city of Oslo is attempting to remedy that stigma by commissioning several new developments, including large building projects in the Bjørvika area. In recent years, it has become home to the famous Oslo Opera House, an architectural wonder that has been attracting many tourists to Grønland each year.
