The main cathedral of the city, Domkirke, is one of the best medieval age churches of Norway. The elaborately carved pulpit and columns are the outstanding features of the cathedral. In Gamle Stavanger, the old city, a large collection of wooden houses can be found. These are a few hundred years old and have been restored; they are still in use.
The Norwegian Petroleum Museum is a modern structure; it describes the oil drilling process and the discovery of oil in the region. Stavanger Museum collectively refers to five museums scattered across the city; between them, they chronicle the history of the region and also have some interesting displays like stuffed birds.
Preikestolen, or the Pulpit Rock which is a cliff that overhangs the fjord, is on the outskirts of the city and a popular hiking spot. Lysefjord is the country’s most beautiful fjord is in the vicinity; ferry rides are available from here.
