The highlight of the city is the Nidaros Domkirke, the cathedral of Trondheim, the most important and impressive church in entire Scandinavia. The outstanding features of the structure are its rose window and it stained glass windows and the carvings covering both the exterior and the interior of the building. A small museum in the church displays the Crown jewels of Norway. The Archbishop’s Palace now serves as an art and sculpture collection and archaeological treasures from the region.
The city is home to several museums: the National Museum of Decorative Arts has a collection of art, sculpture, costumes and jewellery; the Ringve Museum displays musical instruments from all over the world; and the Museum of Cultural History is an open-air museum, which portrays life in this region.
Gaulosen is one of the city’s natural habitats situated on a fjord and is ideal for bird watching.
